Oracle Upgrade Enables More Efficient Computer-Based Patient Record System

Chantilly, VA – July 28, 2008 – Apptis, Inc., a leading IT services and solutions provider to the federal marketplace, announced today it has completed the first of five primary objectives for upgrading the clinical data repository (CDR) within the DoD’s Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) electronic health record system. This database, built upon Oracle solutions, is the world’s busiest Oracle database, handling more transactions per second than any other organization.

Apptis has partnered with Forgentum, Inc., a solutions provider with an in depth understanding of AHLTA and the Military Health System (MHS) and 3M Health Information Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of 3M, to perform this upgrade.

The AHLTA electronic health record system provides a comprehensive, networked, and life- long computer-based patient record system that can be accessed around the globe. The heart of AHLTA, the CDR, captures and stores data for each life-long record. Upon Apptis’ completion of the first objective through the upgrade of the underlying Oracle software, the DoD is able to document and streamline the communications infrastructure driving the system, lowering operating costs, and improving data quality. The next objectives will continue along this path, providing means for better operational control, management and performance.

“At Apptis, we are dedicated to partner with the DoD as it implements its advanced network and database solution for global patient records,” said Bert Notini, Chairman & CEO of Apptis, Inc. “Our services for the CDR are aimed at helping provide our brave and dedicated men and women fighting on the front lines the highest level of medical and health services.”

“The AHLTA and CDR are highly robust tools that have the power to not only capture and store data, but ultimately, save lives,” said Ray Byler, Ph.D., System Engineering, Defense Health Information Management System. “We are pleased to partner with Apptis, as a best of breed technology services provider, to strengthen the CDR to ensure the highest levels of interoperability and operational success. The upgrade of the system’s commercial off the shelf software solutions from Oracle is a key first step.”

“The success of the clinical data repository within AHLTA is paramount to our military’s ability to successfully and accurately analyze, diagnose and treat patients within the complex healthcare system both institutionally and in the field,” said Adam Welsh, President and General Manager, Health Solutions Sector, Apptis, Inc. “Apptis is proud to have the opportunity to help the DoD strengthen its mission within AHLTA to provide fully automated data access with a dynamic, fully integrated and interoperable patient record system that will continue to grow as the MHS expands.”
